Start this September for 2013 entry?
Just thinking about it.....does it work that way?
It woul sure relieve the stresss for 7 A levels exams coming up.
Can I start the Access course this September 2012, and apply for medicine for 2013?
Thanks

Yeah you can do that...I'm doing that this year

The Access to Medicine course is only 1 year long so you can apply September 2012 for entry in 2013. However, as your tutor hasn't really had enough time to get to know you or your academic abilities some universities may require an additional kind of reference in say, January 2013 when your tutor has had time to be able to write you a good enough reference.
If you want to apply to access courses though you need to do it soon-ish as the process can be quite lengthy and selective.
Good luck

You should be okay then with just A levels. Are you applying for graduate entry?
Can I ask who you are doing your Chemistry AS level with? Is it distance learning? I'm considering the A level route but it seems so difficult to sort out!!
Thanks

Hey
A levels would ordinarily be ok, but I still have to do the UKCAT.....I'm doing A levels with AQA, totally independent, jsut bought books from Amazon and arranged to take exams with a private school near me. Pay £50 and they contact AQA get candidate number, get exam and you just show up. Practicals can be done at the school as well.
I thought it was difficult to sort out, but it isn't, you just have to read the information for private candidates piece and a few other bits and bobs and it all comes together.
I do shift work, so evening classes would never work and about £1000, distance learning didnt appeal because they offered no help in finding somewhere to take exams etc and they were expensive too.
So, I called around, found a school, and bought an amazing amazing textbook from Amazon, which is a bit old, but follows the syllabus. Just print the A Level specification, go through the textbook and answer questions, download past exams to see how you do and how they mark and do exam.
I feel like an expert no.......trouble is I have 4 exams and 3 practicals to do by end of May, so it is very very stressful but I really want to be a doctor, so I'm hoping it will all be worth it.
Feel free to ask any questions....Last edited by NurseM; 19-01-2012 at 11:33 PM.

Thanks for the info!!
I was considering doing them myself as I'm quite self motivated and enjoy studying at home but I can't really find anywhere to do the practicals near me so I think I may have to go to Birmingham where I know a college who definately does them. But thanks I will definately keep that in mind now!! Are you doing As and A level in one year or over a longer amount of time? I really wanna get going as soon as possible just don't want to get over my head in work. I also do shift work so evenings are a no-no

NurseM surely you could apply for graduate entry? Or was your nursing degree the old diploma?
I'm currently on a nursing degree and hoping to get on the carmel college access course, failing that continuing the degree and applying for graduate entry. What made you decide to quit nursing? xx
