I've had a look at it and yes it does mean that if you pass you get automatic progression onto their medical programme. However, I've spoken to them and they are pretty selective with who they let on the course. It's made for mature students who have been working for a while. I did my A levels 3 years ago in non science subjects and I was told that I'm not a suitable candidate.

Don't give up!! I'm 21 as well. I'm hopefully doing an Access course this year for 2013 entry and doing a couple of science A levels along side it. It's gonna be a hard slog but it will be worth it! Thought I was the only 21 year old prospective medic

it does get de-motivating sometimes I agree! Well I decided to go down the access route after most of the med schools I contacted advised me to. I have good A levels but not in science subjects and some med schools are picky about doing extra A levels outside of year 13. So, I've applied for a couple of Access programmes. One of them being Manchester College, one being COWA and one being Sussex Downs. I only applied to MANCAT cos I live in Manchester and it would be a massive worry off my back wondering how I'm going to afford to move down south for the other ones. I chose them ones because they are the 3 courses that the most med schools accept. Specifially COWA. As for work experience I haven't got that much at the moment due to other constraints but I have an interview for some healthcare assistant jobs and some volunteering work for red cross. Also giving St John Ambulance a go and whatever else I can find!!! It takes so long to organise :/ You?

I don't know much about the Access to Medicine courses. But why don't you apply for one of the 6 year Medicine courses (Medicine with a foundation year) they are aimed at people with good a-levels in non-science subjects. You could spend from now until october getting work experience and then apply in october for 2013 entry and then you could be studying medicine by Sept 2013! You also don't have the worry of trying to get into medical school after your access course, you carry straight through after your foundation year.
Also if you want to stay in Manchester, Manchester University do the 6 year course (I have an interview for it next week!)
