HELLLPPPP!!!!! advice neededd
Hii there everyone. any ones thoughts and opinions will be much appreciated.
am 19 years old and my gcses (eng l c eng lang d maths c science overall e)
so my gcse are so bad due to illness and problems. i took a gap year and returned to college in lambeth to do btec national diploma in science. my first year i was hardly in due to kidney problems and the second i have completely given up. i have always had passion in doing medicine but my grades are REALLY poorly. so i thought to myself i need knuckle down and pursue the one thing in life i want.
so i done some research and have seen access course to medicine, which am applying for. i also called hopsitals to do work experience of voluntary work. and am retaking my gcse. so my question is will it work if i do well etc and do i have to re take my gcse????
all comments welcomed!!!!

Hi there,
I think I am in a good position to give you some advice as I've been in a very similar situation. I only gained 3 GCSEs 12 years ago due to being very seriously ill for a number of my teenage years which resulted in me spending much of my time in hospital. Like you I had always wanted to study medicine, but didn't think it was feasible after this. I went back to college and studied science A-levels without revisiting my GCSEs and then studied for a science degree which I am graduating from this year. I have applied to medicine for 2012 entry and have interviews this month so it is definitely possible to turn things around :-)You will needed make sure that unis and colleges know about your mitigating circumstances and work very hard to get the highest marks in everything you do now to show that your past achievements are not indicative of your potential. That said it is wise to contact admissions departments if any unis you are interested in to see if they would be prepared to accept mitigating circumstances as some may tell you that they would require you to resist English, maths and science and it's best to be clear on this now. Work experience is brilliant if you can get it but a voluntary/paid post in a hospital/care home that you commit ti every week is even better if possible as it shows your commitment to the subject. Most hospital trusts are looking for volunteers to help with various things.
I hope this has been of some help :-)
