Hi all. I met with Dr Ibrahim today. The women at the main desk messed up with my times so he was on his way home and had to interview me last minute. We didn't get a chance to go through much of the stuff other people did which is really disheartening. Then I found out there's 30 places but 780 applicants... so its fingers crossed really. They have one more day of interviewing apparently then will let us all know in the next two weeks.

Firstly, each Access course is very different. Material from one won't seamlessly transfer to another.

Boimed, who are you? There was no one on the 2010/2011 COWA Access to Medicine course called David.

And in an earlier post, why were you asking if med schools checked the veracity of an applicant's grades? I'm not sure if an honest person would ask that sort of question.

What books and notes are you selling? The relevant books are all available free of charge at the college library. All class notes and past exams are available free of charge on the college's website.

    Hi, BethanyG713.

I am currently on the MANCAT Access to Medicine course and could help you with some of your questions.

Which track are you specifically interested in? The Access to Medicine route is different from the Access to Pharmacy and Dentistry. If your plan is to get into the medicine route, the college stipulates you need to have a minimum of GCSE grade 'B' in Maths and English. If you do not have these, it isn't the end of the world as you can convince the tutor that you can take GCSE Maths alongside the Access to Medicine course. But to do this, you need to at least impress on the computer-based assessments and then talk about your work experiences during your interview. The assessment are not that hard, just basic Maths and English at level II, which you could practice at (Move On ).
About the pre-medicine programme, it is not open for external applicants (that is why you couldn't find it on their website). It is only the tutor that will interview you that could place you on pre-medicine at his own discretion if he felt you have good motivation and experience but lack the necessary qualifications. It would take a year, but if you are committed enough to finish the whole further education within a year, you could enrol on the access course and then register for an evening GCSE Maths course at other places (St John's campus has it, so do Moston I think).

    Good luck with your assessment.
