Interview at Manchester College
I have an interview for the Access to Medicine at Manchester College.
Can anyone tell me what to expect? They have told me it is an interview plus assessment?
I am so excited but nervous, I am a mature student (31).
Thanks.

The assessment is just a few computer based maths and english tests. It's all GCSE level stuff so it shouldn't be too big a deal. It certainly doesn't need any revision or preparation. You'll get scored either level 1, level 2 or level 3 for the different subjects.
The 'interview' will just be a pretty informal chat with one of the course tutors. They'll explain the format of the course and what's expected of you while trying to gauge how well they think you'd do in the terms of university applications.
It's nothing too taxing really, but you'd benefit from going in with an awareness of the application process for medical schools (UKCAT, need for relevant work experience, etc) just to help the conversation along.
Don't worry about it too much, it's pretty tame compared to the actual application process for med school.Manchester '15

Thanks very much, not too worried now;-)
Do you know roughly how many places there are for this access course? I wonder how much competition I am up against.

Somewhere around 50 over the two different sites if everything is all the same.
No idea how many applications they get each year though. I heard a silly figure once off one of the tutors, but I'm not sure it was genuine.
I'd guess they only get a few legitimate applications each year off people that are capable.Manchester '15

There's 50 places I had my interview in April and at that point they had received over 600 apps. I think it really just depends on how driven the applicant is. The interviews are really basic geared towards making sure applicants are realistic about the expectations of the universities.
Just waiting to find out if I have a place. Offer letters are starting to go out this month.

Hi all, I was wondering what to wear for the interview too as I'm having mine today for the same course at Manchester. The interview I apparently more of a meet and greet with the tutor. They go through your expectations and what you are looking for and look at ways the can support you, and whether you are right for the course. I wouldn't treat it like a job interview.. more of a how can we help you kind of interview. Using the word interview maybe even a little misleading.
In the end up opted for my trousers and shirt with a jumper on top. Not overly professional but still gives the appearance its something that is important.
Good luck with your applications by the way. Maybe we'll all see each other in September time :-)
