i'm currently a BSc (Hons) Applied Sport Science student at the university of Edinburgh. Recently a number of experiences and variables have instilled and aroused both a new and old interest in medicine, notably increased exposure to a clinical enviroment (Royal -Edinburgh orthapaedics) following an ACL and MCL rupture and Menisci tissue damage following a rugby match, this coupled with areas of interest on my course (Biochemistry, Anatomy, Physiology and Kinesiology) have stimulated me to research entry to medical school and a medical career. I want to get some objective opinions and advice as to whether this is a feasible and realistic (very demanding and competitive yes) goal for me to strive and pursue.

As a result of a number of domestic issues during my further education I failed to give an accurate account of my academic potential and aptitude (BCC) I am howver confident provided the opportunity I can retake Biology, and additionally Chemistry either at a further education college or distance learning (dubious about this?) and achieve A* grades (new grading format?) or alternatively enter onto an access to medicine course (opinions on this, good courses etc would be good as I've no notion of which are reputed,'the best' or which Universities and Medical schools prefer).

As it stands I plan on completing my studies to a 2:1 standard or hopefully first and work from there to either retake A-levels or entry via Acces course and gaining some clinical exp volunterring somewhere. I'm aware it's a long slog and a lot of hard work is going to need to be applied but I'd really appreciate objective advice, and opinions, from people with a similar story, those have entered medicine in later life, those who have gained entry via access courses and any personal experiences you can add which might help my decision or clarify further. All advice welcome

thanks in advance
