The Official Sussex Downs Applicant 2011 Thread...

Hi

I thought I would start an official thread for all of us who are applying to Sussex Downs. I am attending the information day, on the 20th and cant wait! Been preparing myself for it already, and have already managed to get my references sorted out. I want my application sent off within two days of the last info session.

I am just really hoping I get invited for the Pre-Access days and
interview! As I would just love to go there.

According to the notes I made from the day, roughly two weeks after the application deadline (May 4th) we should hear if we made it to the Pre-Access course!! Wow, when you think about it, that's so soon!! But only 30-32 of us will make it to that point.
Don't forget the Personal Statement as well. Make it amazing as it will go to Brighton and Sussex Medical School (where I really want to go)
I do hope I get to see you at the Pre-Access!!

Hi Nic, I hope I get to meet you too. I am so excited, but I am trying to 'not' be just in case I dont get called in for the Pre-Access course lol. And I cant believe only 30-32 will get shortlisted. EEEEK, well I have done all I can now. I just want to get my application form in, but have to wait till the info day which is not long now. Good luck to you as well, Im sure you will get called in. xx

I know what you mean. I'm really excited but trying not to be as the odds are really small and I don't want to be disappointed!! Yes, only 30-32 is quite small and then to think they narrow it again to only around 18!! So scary!!
Ah no, i haven't got into the pre-access already. I was just saying that I hope I get to see you there!! When you think about it, in about 5 or 6 weeks I guess we'll know!!

I am also attending the information evening on 20th April, I am having to travel from Newcastle which is a pain but necessary to be able to apply for the course. Have any of you already handed in your application and if so, how did you find it?

Yeah the odds are a bit of worry for gaining a place - will have to make the application the best it can be.

Who did any of you get to write your references and have any of you also applied for any other access courses?

I hope you've been reading about things that you need for the application seeing as the 20th is so close to the deadline (4th May).

Wow, Newcastle is far!! I haven't sent mine off yet, but I finally completed it on Friday!! It took ages as I had to wait for one of my references to come back!! She took a month to write it!!

I have three references. Two medical ones (from senior nurses) from when I worked at the hospital and one non medical one for variety (HR Manager from another job I had recently!

And no, I haven't applied to any other courses.

But make sure you start getting your references now and also prepare a good personal statement!! I went to the information session in January, so I've had a few months to prepare for what you may only have 2 weeks to prepare for.

I'm really nervous though as the odds are so little

Hi nic, just checking you don't get the application form until you go to the info day? Started personal statement etc but can't send anything until I get the form...only 9 more days to go...

That's right, they hand out the application forms on the day of the information session!! Good on the personal statement. That was hardest for me as my academics aren't great, but my work experience is so I spoke to BSMS admissions and they said that if my personal statement reflected my Medical career well enough they would focus on that and my prediction of the A2M course. So it took me ages to write!! Woooo only 9 days!! xxx

I must be crazy, I am tryng to get another reference....but I suppose anything will help as I dont have a degree or anything like that. You know the linked interviews with BSMS, when would you get that? After you have been accepted onto the SD course, or on the Pre-Access Days? I have been searching this forum and it seems a little unclear...
