Financial support for students on degree courses in medicine - NHS Careers

"2) Funding for graduate students on standard five-year courses
Graduate students will not be eligible to receive a tuition fee loan or maintenance grant regardless of whether or not they have previously received funding, and universities may charge them the full cost of their tuition. Fees payable to medical schools by graduate students vary widely and details are available from the schools themselves. Students may be able to apply to Student Finance England for a full, income based, maintenance loan. From year five onwards, tuition fees will be paid by the Department of Health and they will be eligible to apply for a means-tested NHS bursary, and reduced maintenance loan from the Student Finance England (equivalent to approximately half the full rate).

    3) Funding for graduate students on accelerated courses
Graduates on accelerated (four year) courses are eligible to apply for means-tested NHS bursaries from the Department of Health in the second, third and fourth years of the course. Tuition fees are also paid during this period of the course and students can apply for a reduced maintenance loan from Student Finance England. In their first year, graduate students on accelerated courses will be eligible to apply for student loans from Student Finance England for their maintenance."

I was talking about a post-grad 5yr degree. I only know of 2 people (dentists) on the accelerated 4yr course. I know students with phD's that have to do the 5yr degree.

There are many misconceptions about post-grad entry. We have only 2% post grad in 300 students. Of those 6 people, 2 are on the 4yr degree doing a MAX FAX route i.e. they are dentists. Because they have to work they don't get a penny.

All the other post-grads even with phD's are on the 5 yr.

In 2008 we were told that GCSE's were now epected for mature students. This affected all 4 of my UKCAT uni applications. I advise you double check this information regarding GCSE's. You may get a lucky break, but I would ask first before you make any big decisions.
