Well, I read this thread before going into Lambeth College and may confess that it actually left me wondering if that was the right thing to do. Well I trusted my guts and took the opportunity and gave it everything I had.. The course is really demanding but very dynamic and interesting. Excellent teaching, specially biology and chemistry. This past year (2010/11) it was quite successful where we had about 10 offers for medicine and dentistry out of a 40 students class . When we start to compare access courses, COWA has a reputation to be one of the best in the business with 85% success. The reality is, I found out when I met students from that particular school during medical interviews, that the percentage is more likely to be around 25 - 30% success. Taking this in consideration, Lambeth is not doing bad at all, considering that we initially were around 40 students and throughout the course we have seen around 5 to 10 drop outs... this takes our statistics up close to those of well established courses.. There is a catch though, not many Medical Schools accept Lambeth Access Courses and for this reason, the competition amongst Lambeth students, in the very few universities who accept it, is very fierce indeed. It however worked really well for me. I would, without a shadow of doubt, recommend the course. Weather you are going to get into Medical School, this depends entirely on you! Best of Luck!

I agree with JSA_2011.
I am going to start the Access to Medicine at Lambeth college despite an offer from The Manchester College as well. I believe the staff at Lambeth are very helpful and distinguished in the area having been through the profession, and it is up to the students to take the best out of it. The key to success in my perspective is to first convince the mind that medicine is the right career choice for us and we need to stick to it in spite of the probable straight rejections at first trial. Instead of predicted grades, I believe the chances of getting into medical school for mature students with no degrees or British A levels are higher if the application is submitted after finishing the access course successfully as the admission teams will have a good look on the potential applicant, on top of a good work experience and decent UKCAT.

Having done the COWA Access course, I can say with total confidence the progression rate, for those having started the 2010 course and gotten into medschool for 2011, is NOT 85%. It's closer to 20%.

Firstly, each Access course is very different. Material from one won't seamlessly transfer to another.
Boimed, who are you? There was no one on the 2010/2011 COWA Access to Medicine course called David.
And in an earlier post, why were you asking if med schools checked the veracity of an applicant's grades? I'm not sure if an honest person would ask that sort of question.
What books and notes are you selling? The relevant books are all available free of charge at the college library. All class notes and past exams are available free of charge on the college's website.

I can't think of any "sure" way to get into medical school, other that pay and got to Eastern Europe.
But it could also be your presentation. This is going to sound hypocritical, as my typing/spelling/grammar is awful, but I struggle to believe that you have a degree in journalism looking at your post above.

My advice is that you contact individual the medical admissions department of all the British Medical schools around the country and ask them for advice, they usually tend to be very helpful, email is always better than calling, at least then you have ocumented proof of what they said, and they can't turn around and say they advisedof something else. You should also attend their open days, at least then you will be able to speak to admissions tutors face to face, they know the most about the enrty requirements for their Medical degree course.
You should also speak to various colleges that have Access courses, the good ones that is, i.e. Lambeth college, College of West Anglia, City College Norwich etc. Also as mentioned before not all univesities accept Access courses, so that's probably something that you woul like to ask the Medical schools
I too had a complicated situation, and went around sending emails to various universities, and attending open days up and down the country speaking to any admissions tutor I could get a hold of, I found this EXTREMELY useful. By the end of it I knew what I had to do to get into medical school. I hope you do too at the at the end of this.
Good luck and just drop me a post if you need any help
