Pre-Med Grades
Universities say that they will accept students with AAB, and sometimes even ABB... with 14 to 1 applications to availability, are these sort of grades realistic? would anybody even consider accepting a person with ABB? if so how rare is that and which Med Schools would allow it?
The head of Prospective Medics that we need 3 things to stand a chance of getting into Med School: at least 7 A*'s at GCSE, a portfolio of 4 different kinds of medical based work experience (Medisix course, caring, GP shadowing and Hospital) and AAA at A level. is this true?
will it really be necessary to get 7 A*'s? I have read on forums that Med Schools don't even take GCSE's into account, yet I am still hearing this - what is your opinion?
For example if a student was to recieve 3 A*'s 3 A's 3 B's and a C at GCSE would he stand a chance? - Even if he got AAA or AAB? < Would that B really make a difference?
I know many of you would say that figures are not official, and just that the applicant should do the best he can but that doesn't do much to help out. we need YOUR opinion on all of the above.

I don't think it's true you need four different kinds of work experience. It's what you learn from your work experience
and how you put that across that's important. How much you've done is irrelevant if you can't show some insight
into a medical career when asked about it. Not too sure about the GCSE. I know that Birmingham
and Edinburgh ask or 7+ A*'s but I think they're in the minority. And as far as I'm aware the standard offer
for the majority of medical schools is AAB-AAA. Have a look at this website.

Or failing that, speak to the universities you're interested in and see what they say. They're the best ones to ask.HYMS

Pretty much all of this is nonsense.
Unis do look at your GCSE grades as there are minimum requirements, any C will look bad but wont stop you getting in. Some places require at least a B in English and maths though. The only place that asks for 7A*s is Birmingham, there you wont get in with lower. If you aren't capable of pretty easily getting mostly As at GCSE you are likely to struggle with A levels and med school so you may need to rethink things.FY1 Manchester
