In Need of Advice
Hiya,
Ive been perusing through the web and this forum without any luck of finding someone or advice of my somewhat unique and desperate situatuion.
So basically I just graduated from uni and only managed a 3rd Class Degree in Molecular Biology which is a bit of a non starter really considering how competitive getting into medicine is. Would it help to do an MSc because I found one that would accept my degree class or would the Uni's still take into account my undergrad grade? Would it help to do an access to medicine course?
Any advice would be much appreciated Thanks.

I think that most Graduate entry programmes into Medicine require a 2:1 or higher in a science-related degree, so you may be better off doing the Access to Medicine course and applying for the five-year course.

Hi, stilatit. you're eligible to apply to Peninsula, as long as you achieve their required cut-off score in the GAMSAT (it was 64 this year). If you attain a masters, then you can also apply to St. Georges if, again, you achieve their required GAMSAT cut-off, which was 60 this year. all the best

Doing an ATM course wouldn't erase your poor degree and I doubt any decent ATM provider would offer you a place, purely for that reason.
Your best option is to do a MSc and then apply using that. Whether or not your Bachelors would be taken into consideration would be down to the individual Med School that you apply to.“The art of medicine consists of amusing the patient while nature cures the disease.” - Voltaire.

Your best bet is to get in contact with every medical school in the UK in order to see what you would be required to do to be eligible to put in an application, even the ones that ask for a minimum of 2.1 as in some cases this isn't a default requirement. This will give you a better idea of what you should do next, whether that be a masters and/or PhD, an access course, or all of them. The GAMSAT is an option as well.
There are people on the College of West Anglia A2M course that have 3rd class degrees. I'm not sure about how they are getting on with their applications but I know of at least one person that was eligible to apply to all four of her universities and had an interview at one. She has a masters a think.HYMS
