COWA Access to Medicine 2010/11
Hi,
I applied for this course over a month and a half ago and was wondering if anyone had waited this long before getting a reply?
also, what qualifications did you guys apply with and how much work experience?
Here is mine:
Academics:
A levels - BCC
GCSE - BBBBBBBCCC with B's in maths and english
Work Experience:
- 1 Week private hospital work abroad in Pakistan
- 1 Week Public hospital work - I got to go into surgery a few times and even got to see a live C-Section from within the operating room
- 1 Week work experience in a Pharmacy
- On going medical equipment work experience
Non Medical:
- 4 Years computer technician
- 2 Weeks Legal
- 2 years Young Enterprise
I also took the UKCAT and got 640, but i only did this for UEA medicine foundation and i got rejected because i had a CC in GCSE science and not a B.
Incase you were wondering i am only 18 and turn 19 before august this year
Please post your work experience and academics
Thanks

I got invited to Interview 2 months after I initially applied and got an offer at the interview. I don't have nearly as much work experience as you (getting cups of tea for Alzheimers patients in the Neuro wing) and was told I'd need to get more before I apply to medical school. How did you manage to get into surgery? That's amazing!
The only other thing is that we were told during the course presentation is that we have to try and aim for a UKCAT score of at least 650.

i think it is possible to get into surgery in england, a lot of my friends did. But abroad, in less developed countries, many hospitals do not mind you entering surgery but obviously you are not allowed to assist unless you have a medical degree.
congratulations on getting a place, how long did it take you to hear whether or not you got a place after your interview?

Thanks, they offered it to me at the interview which was a bit of a shock! There were a couple of others I know who got offers straight away also. Did you get a confirmation that they had received your application?
