    A2M Grading

Out of interest, how do the different A2M grade their courses?

Is it a Pass/Merit/Distinction affair on all of the courses?

How is the overall mark determined?

    Thanks in advance.

Don't know about other courses but at COWA yeah it's pass/merit/distinction. You need 70% for a distinction and the majority of universities require you to achieve distictions in all areas of the course. So for COWA that's 6 distinctions.

    Thanks for your reply.

When you say 6 distinctions, what are the 6 areas?

Is it just 6 exams for the course, or are there multiple exams? If there is more than one exam for each module, how is the total mark determined?

If for instance, someone got only 65% on one of their exams, would they effectively have failed the course?

    Thanks again!

The six areas are chemistry, biology, physics, maths, medical geography, and a project in a medically related topic of your choice. Each topic is broken down differently, but to give you an example, in chemistry you have an exam at the end of the year worth 70%, and two sets of coursework each worth 15%, one before christmas and one after. The one before christmas is in two parts. A booklet on moles which you have to do under exam conditions, and a practical assessment on titrations including a write-up. So you don't necessarily have to achieve a distinction in your final summer exam in order to get a distinction in that subject overall.

    Hope that helps.
