Well I only have 3 A*s and a B as well. Compared to most people they aren't great.

People have got in top uni's with GCSE's like that... your only limited from like 1 uni... Your GCSE's are fine, just work on you AS and get good work experience/extra curricular

Just don't apply to Cardiff or Birmingham as they look at your GCSE's rather than your predicted A levels.
And regarding 'top' uni's, I personally wouldn't apply to Oxbridge, imperial, ucl etc, only because although it IS possible to get in, you are dissadvantaged from the start.
And because you only have 4 choices I would seriously consider not putting a top uni down as a choice.Current reapplicant for 2010 entry

I read somewhere imperial don't place so much emphasis on GCSE results, and why are you applying to cardiff if your GCSEs are worse than mine?

Ok imperial whatever.
I rang Cardiff before putting them down and although I miss the GCSE cut off which last year was 22 points, my 3 A's at A level boost my score.
If you didn't know about the scoring of GCSE's at Cardiff; 3 points A*, 2 points A, 1 point B. Your top 9 GCSE results are calculated.
I foolishly applied to Cardiff last year and missed the cut off by 3 points.Current reapplicant for 2010 entry

Tbh at cambridge you'd be fine, not so sure about oxford though... i doubt it there...
I'd also say you wouldn't be disadvantaged at UCL or Imperial...
Birmingham/Belfast/Cardiff/Oxford are probably the ones I can think ofSecond Year Medical Student at Guys, Kings and St. Thomas Hospital
