Does Duke of Edinburgh put applicants at a large advantage?
How big an effect does having silver Duke of Edinburgh when applying to Uni for medicine have on the admissions tutors choice of applicants?
I know other things such as personal statement, academic grades, and interviews (if they interview) all can make a big difference.

I doubt a DofE award would put your application at an advantage in any way.
The skills that you have learnt on DofE that get portrayed in your personal statement would though.“The art of medicine consists of amusing the patient while nature cures the disease.” - Voltaire.

It would be great writing about the skills learnt from d of e, but don't be fooled that it can 'guarantee' you an interview/offer. And nowadays every other applicant (not just to medicine) does d of e, it's become quite common and I think its novelty of it is going to start to wear off within the next few years!
But hey ho that's just MY opinion, I haven't spoken to any admissions tutor regarding the d of e award or anything like that!
