Where do I apply for funding? SAAS/Student Finance England?

I've been searching for ages online trying to find an answer to this question but am totally lost!

I currently live in Edinburgh...however, am hoping to be accepted onto the COWA course starting 2010 and then hopefully apply for medicine 2011 entry. As I will be living in England at the time of applying for 5 year medicine courses would I then apply for funding from Student Finance England, or would I apply for support from Students Awards Agency for Scotland as I was born in Edinburgh?

The most logical answer seems as I would be living in England at the time I applied to entry for medical school I would apply as an English student...no?

The reason I ask is there seems to be a rather large (around £3000) variance depending on which body I apply to get support from (SAAS pays much less).

    Thanks for your help!

I think that if you will be studying your degree in a Uni in England then you will apply to Student Finance England but if you are planning to study your degree in Scotland then you should apply through SAAS.

It might be worth giving them a ring to make sure though.

You apply through Student finance Scotland, it's all to do with where you are from, not where you are studying.

The awards agency that you apply to is based on where you're 'ordinarily' resident. The definition of 'ordinarily' resident excludes having moved there for the sole purpose of getting full-time education, which I think means that you'll be applying to SAAS.

But you should check that with them: Contact SAAS

I know the maintenance loan is stupidly small if you have to go through them, but the flip side of that is that tuition fees are quite a bit less for Scottish students studying in Scotland.
