Yeah sorry about that, I wasn't being very specific was I! Do the top universities such as UCL also consider the retakes, and will these retakes have to mentioned heavily in your personal statement? I've grown and chosen a particular direction, as I am 23, going on the 24, therefore my original examinations wern't taken recently, I just wonder if universities are quite particular about resits and the reasons behind them, especially after such a long time as it is in my case....

Given that you're a mature student, you're probably more suited to an Access to Medicine course, such as that offered by the College of West Anglia (the only one that UCL accepts, though there are other access courses around the country), which are designed for students in exactly your position. If you still want to retake your old GCSEs/Alevels, you should contact each university that you are interested in directly.

Hiya, i'm retaking the maths and science gcses this year(as my results don't match the ones that COWA recommends for future med studuents,
), applying for COWA this year for 2010 entry, and then hopefully be going to uni in 2011.
Thank you! I will give UCL and the other unis a call this Monday, I just thought there would a list of unis that don't accept retakers

Well UCL states that it's applicants must have their required A level grades over 2 years, no longer, so retaking will exceed that, but that's really meant for applicants who will be 17 when they apply, mature students can often have the rules bent a little.

If you are an ATM applicant to UCL, there are no GCSE requirements.
They require:
- An overall distinction on the ATM course, with at least 4 individual distinctions including Chemistry and Biology,
- The BMAT to be taken before application,
- Relevant work experience in lieu of GCSE resits.
Hope this helps.“The art of medicine consists of amusing the patient while nature cures the disease.” - Voltaire.
