THanks for the help, I had a quick google and I got the impression I'd just apply through student finance as I currently live in England. I am a UK resident, have been from birth and have never done a degree before. Fingers crossed.
not too fussed about money, belts will just be tight if I get in

hey everyone! Big hi to Frangelico - nice to see you over here!
Well I applied for Perth yesterday, and already I am absolutely itching to hear from them!
So I was wondering, what happens to those who don't make the top five? Also am I right in thinking it is only St Andrews who accept the pathway course?
Moving to Perth is going to be crazy, as it is eight hours away! ouch!
I have been looking around online and it would seem that the competition isn't that stiff for this course is that true? x

Due to the course being in Perth, there is a lower number of applications. They receive on average 200 applications a year, but they only select around 10-15 to start the course. Basically, if you don't meet the requirements, you don't get in, irrespective of the current intake for that year. One year, only two students were admitted to the pathway to medicine course due to the poor level of applicants.
In each year, St Andrews exercise discretion on how many are allowed to progress. Five is the pre-determined limit, but in some years they have offered extra places to the students who have passed all exams. It is entirely possible that ten could be allowed to progress. However, this is linked to the amount of A-level students who either accept St Andrews as their first choice or don't get the required grades. So essentially, it depends on how many places are left for us, but we are guaranteed 5.
I'm sure St Andrews wouldn't let a potentially excellent mature student slip away.
The course is becoming more widely recognised, so I'd advise speaking to Glasgow/Aberdeen/Dundee etc.

Hi, does anyone know how long we expect to wait to hear whether we have an interview? I know I only applied a few days ago, so I won't hold it against them that I am still waiting lol, but it would be nice to know so I don't drive myself insane! I am guessing we find out my snail mail?!
Thanks in advance!

oh thats fantastic, thankyou. So how did it go? Are you going to interview? I am beginning to think it would just be easier to stick with the degree and go for graduate entry, but we will wait and see! xxx

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum but need some advice re this course.
I really want to do this course and I qualify in every way except that I have a degree....I have just graduated with a 2.2 in law from Dundee Uni...hated the course, had decided I wanted to medicine from third year but just kept going. I was going to apply and just lie, I dont suppose there is any way they will find out, but I would always be worrying.
Any advice or thoughts would be great?

Hi,
I can't see them accepting you to the course if they have full knowledge of your degree. I tend to agree with this as you will be competing with other students on the Perth course who have been out of education for years. You would have a significant advantage over them, which is unfair as the course is designed for them. However, I think the access course at Stow College in Glasgow actually prefers graduates and that would be a good place to start your enquiries.
In regards to the omission of your degree from your application, I've known two people who have done the same thing and it's never been detected. Both just graduated with me this year.
Have you contacted Dundee Uni to see if they would accept you with a 2:2?
Good luck
