    MANCAT assessment

    hi guys,

i have my assessment at MANCAT on thursday and was wondering if anybody could possibly suggest what it consists of? and weather it is just an assesment and not a formal/informal interview?

Tests: are they of gcse level? are they hard? i havent touched maths in 12 years lol ??

If you pass their tests, do they invte you in again for an interview?

Thank you, your help is much appreciated

If I remember rightly the assessment consists of two sections. a maths and an english section.
They are computer based tests, some multiple choice, some filling in the answers and there is no time limit that I am aware.

I did not find them too difficult, though I had problems with the computer system itself (it crashed) and had to redo the maths section twice.

After the assessment interview dates were sent out to some (I dod not know the criteria) At the interview I was asked to write a short essay, though some received the essay section in the mail.

The staff are very friendly and approachable, especially Mohammed Ibrahim the course coordinator.

(the above is based on last years application process, it may have changed)

    Good Luck

The computer tests are straight forward. Basic English and basic maths. I wouldn't worry about them I had not done maths in years and did fine! The written thing, is basically 500 words or so on either 'how you got to this stage in your life' or 'why you are doing this course'...something like that! Its not a big deal at all! I got on the course last year. Starting medical school this year. Mohammed Ibrahim the course director is brilliant! The course is an excellent stepping stone to medicine. x

pls can anyone give me any advice... I am 21, married and have a little girl. my husband is in the army but i have decided not to be travelin with him. while doing my a levels i was unserious and got tremendously poor grades. i did do the ness subjects for med school because i like science. my grades r bio-d, chem-d, stat-c and i did psychology at as level and got a C. well with the fourth as you wuld think tht i had my mind set on what i wanted to do well i only took that subject because i wanted to see what it was about. i didnt attend classes for Psychology because frankly i liked the subject but didnt like the teacher. looking back i see now that i wasted my time. after spending yrs not knowing what to do with my life and going through a major emotional troumoil, i gave my life to Jesus and turned over a new leaf. now i am married with a wonderful husband and a beautiful little girl.

I have decided that medicine is the career field i want to take on. what are my options I have been looking at access to medicine courses but they are all outside london and i cant move because i am no longer on my own i have responsibilities. oh for my gcse i did a 1yr gcse course where i did 5 subjects and achieved a grade B in all at higher level. the subjects r bio, chem, physics, maths, english.

i was thinkin that would it be worth doing a 1yr intensive Alevel course. i kno thames valley does a pre med option but i have read that even if you achieve the percentage they are looking for you might b accepted to ICL. should i do a 1yr intensive Alevel course that will gimme a better chance at getting into other universities.

then again i kno that not all unis take certain access courses.

    help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111

    MOSESJUDAH.

There was a girl in my class @ MANCAT last year in almost identical circumstances. She lived in york and had kids, her husband was away with the army often.

She found balancing commuting and looking after the kids a handful but she managed, though she missed more than a few classes due to child related emergencies.

She did not get an offer but it is certainly possible to get a place through this route. If this is what you want to do then go for it, but I think it is a very hard thing to do while raising a family. If you get through the foundation year you are looking down the barrel of 5 years of long days and nights just to qualify.

I will say though if this is what you want then Mancat's course is excellent and not too intensive. My year had only 2 mornings 9-1 and one full day 9-4 a week in the classroom. There were a lot of assignments but I never felt swamped or under too much pressure as long as I kept on top of them.

Good luck, and I hope this helps
