Application form
Hi all,
I want to apply to the 'access to medicine'-course at Kings Lynn - basically I'm looking at the application form and I'm wondering, do I have to include a separate document with CV/personal statement and another one explaining why I’m applying for a UEA linked place? Or is it just enough by filling in the application form and send it?
Also, how much will it cost to fund studies at Kings Lynn in terms of fees etc. for a year?
Your answer will be very helpful and appreciated!
/Lucia

Hi and welcome to the forum

Re: the application form, just fill in what is required. From memory you will need to supplement your application with the following:
1. Why a career change (assuming you have done other stuff before now)
2. Up to date CV.
You may wish to check directly with the college, but i'm pretty sure this application cycle for medicine at UEA (2009) is the last for linked places, i.e. your application will be entered with the rest of the pool for the academic year 2010 (A-level students et al). Like I say check with the college.
Get your application in now, but it does take time for admissions to process applications as the course is quite popular.
Anything else just ask....

Hi Lucia!
The year I applied I sent the application forn, current CV and a SEPARATE covering letter explaining:
- why medicine and why now
- why COWA
- why I would like to be considered for a linked place/why UEA should take me/ what I specifically liked about the UEA course structure etc
Maybe the application form by itself would have been ok, but why take the chance? Better to stand out a bit!
Best of luck, it's a great course xLouise

The letter's basically a chance to write a personal statement of sorts to the admissions people at COWA. What they like is for you to show your skills and your personal development over the last few years, as well as what you've learned from work experience, why you want to become a doctor. You're not going to get grilled on it in the same way as you might about your personal statement at a medical school interview, but you really get to sell yourself here. Make the most of it.
Good luck to you. Might see you next year. I have a place if I don't get in at pre-meds this year.

Just to make it clear per my post, in addition to the "standard application" those additional letters need to be considered. Remember to check with the college that the linked place letter is needed, as Dr Heylings mentioned that this year 08/09 will be the last year that the linked place will operate, due to the "abuse" of the system over the last few years.
Good luck

Hi - I guess the one thing i'd do before starting, assuming you need it of course is refresh your subjects really, GCSE level (physics, chem, biol) just to brush off any cobwebs. If you need english and maths, make sure you start looking at the subjects now, in particular subjects that may have been difficult before, maths and physics tend to be the common ones really.
On another note, the information delivered is enough to get your thinking going, it is up to you to go and expand on the lectures - it's called self directed learning, if you're keen you'll do it, if you're a bit lazy, you'll fall down on knowledge.
I'm not trying to scare anyone, but the course is designed to be that way, as it tests you to deliver when it matters, oh and don't forget you are competing against school leavers with excellent grades.
Best of luck, if you need anything let me know

His home gone, his family slaughtered and his heart slowly dying, he dropped to the floor a broken man looked up to the black clouds and sobbed 'why God, why me?'...
A thunderous lightning bolt parted the clouds and God replied...
'I dunno... its just something about you that pisses me right off'

Unfortunately, there is no "may be" about it. This is the last year. I was told that when I said I would be deferring entry. If you want an option of linked places, you'll have to go to Sussex Downs.
