Help!

Hi, basically iv started year 13 and am doing biology, chemistry and geography. I got 1A and 3Cs for my ASs and i got 8As and 2Bs for my GCSEs. I didnt work hard for my ASs as for many of my exams are started revising a week before but this year i fully intend on doing well and hopefully getting the AAB needed for medicine, which only recently i decided is the career path i definately want to follow.

But the problem is, Im not going to get the predicted grades needed for medicine, i havent done any hospital volunteering, i havent done any work experience and havent done the UKCAT. So my best bet is that i solely focus on getting my AAB this year and if i do, take a gap year and reapply for medicine (and then do all the things i mentioned above).

So at the moment, im going to apply to UCAS for Biomedical Sciences. So what i wanted to ask everyone is, am i making the right decision??? and also which unis are the best to do biomedical sciences or any other related courses which increase my chances of getting into medical school???

Thanks in advance.

Woah. You don't need to apply to any university this year.

Get your grades of AAB/AAA and take a gao year, getting as much work experience and voluntary work as possible. Then apply in the next application cycle.

I would advise appkying for something like that as a back up because if you dont get your grades even if its just ABB or AAC lol, Apply for bio-medical sciences cause then you dont have to waste a year for something you cant quite reach second time round.

yh jdavy thats exactly what i was thinking, just to apply for a backup. So does anyone know which biomedical science or other courses at which unis can increase my chances of getting into medicine at the same uni i study biomedical sciences at?

It's virtually impossible to transfer from biomedical sciences to medicine. So that's not really an option.
There is also no direct progression from biomedical sciences or biochem to medicine. You have to apply again just like anyone else. If you got any offer for medicine, staying at the same university would be the least of your concerns.
Biomedical sciences are not a passport to medicine. Do not treat it as such. The way to medicine is through showing a commitment to and an understanding of the career and the profession. You get that via work experience and voluntary work. If you want to do that in a gap year and then apply, that is just as good an option as doing a biomedical sciences degree. Neither are a passport, only a pathway. It's up to you which one you decide to take. Ultimately, you're all going to be taught the same sciences and the same skills at the end.
