How to get work experience

Has anyone got any tips on how to get work experience fast?

I have been accepted on to an access course, it is not a medicine specific course, but having contacted a few schools and uni's, they say they will accept me with my chosen access course, on their 5 year medicine programs with a foundation year (6yr total)...... as long as I get the correct amounts of credits at level 3 and level 2, in the correct subjects............. no problem (hopefully!)

The same applies to a Pharmacy 'mpharm' course which would be my back up choice.

I have no other qualifications apart from the upcoming access course, and no work experience in this field.

I need to get some experience ASAP, what should I be looking to do and how do I get in? Just write polite begging letters to GP's and such?

I mean I am totally clueless here!

I am 99% sure this is what I want to do, but obviously you can never be 100% until you have had a taste of if for a few weeks, which is why I know I can no expect to get into uni without some kind experience to put on my CV.

Couple of questions as I may be in the same boat. What's your access course, where are you studying and what uni's have you contacted so far?

I'm probably going to be contacting the local St Andrews/First Aid group, get my first aider certs and then do volunteer work through that. I'd also be looking at some sort of work at the local health centre etc but I'm not sure how to go about it either.

always helps to see if any friends/relatives know any doctors. If you ask through them they sometimes let you follow them for a while probs without crb

I'm doing access to science, which includes physics, biology and chemistry, LVL 3. Maths and English (not sure at what level).

I have contacted my local uni's about the entrance grades needed....... it is best to ring them direct.

Also I think UKCAT is going to be an unavoidable evil.......

There are some Pharmacy courses in clearing this year, so I figure I will be able to get on that as a desperate last resort.

If you haven't already, make sure you get that in writing from the prospective med school (accepting the access to science) as the answer you get from one advisor may not be the same as the head of admissions.
