    Tale Of 2 Results

My friend and I both received our GCSE results today, and we both wish to become doctors. I am wondering if you think our GCSE results are good enough for medical school (I understand we will have to do very well at AS/A level and do extra curricular work)

    My Results
    4A*S 4As 1B

    My Friends results
    11 Bs

Please give us some idea of if our results are good enough. Thanks.

Quite a few places say that they want 6 or more A*s and A's. Others just say that they wanted passes in at least so many with B in double science, maths and english language. You need to get on interweb and look round or order prospectuses.

There's nothing to stop either of you applying. As long as Chemistry is one of those results that is. Good A-levels may ameliorate Bs at GCSE, but some medical schools might decide to make GCSEs a selection factor if too many people present as good candidates. On the other hand though, spend this year really learning about what it is to be a doctor. Get as much work experience as you can and make yourselves really attractive candidates.

you got 4 rejections even with 4 A's?? Did you do bad in your UKCAT or did you not have any experience?

Well, I didnt have my A levels results when I applied, but it is not uncommon for people to get rejections with 4 A's.

I had plenty of experience through voluntary work, but my UKCAT score was very average (600 exactly) and I think my personal statement was a bit crap.

    thanks gizmo....i think.

And I must admit it does worry me that people with 4 A's receive 4 rejections, but since you said about your UKCAT and PS, I guess it just hammers home that academic acheivment isn't everything.
