Smile Access to Medicine at Birkbeck

    Hi all,

Wondering if anyone had completed or is intending to do A2M at London's Birkbeck this coming year?

I get the impression as it's offered part time it's not got the same respect as other A2M courses, but, as I need to continue working F/T, I'm going ahead with it - partly as gives a bit of a taste if I do enjoy sciences enough to apply for medicine.

    Anyone got any goss/feedback?!

    Hiya!!

Have you been to an interview? Have you got an offer yet? I got one to but I am not sure if I should go as there doesn't seem to be alot of people being able to give feedback on this course? As well as the only Uni that 'seems' to be accepting it is King's. Which is not bad - please don't get me wrong - but if nobody wants to say that they accept applications at the very least there seems to be a very slim chance of getting on to Med afterwards? The lady that interviewed me adv me of that there are students who has gone onto Med but she also said that it is very competitive - which is already widely known when it comes to Med - and that you must get a distinction or above 70% or some such. It was alla blur as I was happy with just getting the offer

I will be attending this course if I do not get the offers I am hoping for. Which Uni's were you considering, may need to sit the UKCAT.

i've got an interview at BBK shortly --- fingers crossed it'll come through I'm trying to hold off applying for a year just to get my head round if I think Medicine would work for me. I'm considering using A2M as a bit of a warm up for the GAMSAT as I'm a grad but will see how things progress.

If you're after unis in the SE that are keen on A2M, word of mouth told me Brighton/Sussex were really enthusiastic about it... might check that out though I think there's a pretty decent list of unis that accept A2M on the COWA website (col-westanglia.co.uk?), but there appears to be such a hierarchy in what unis deem to be 'decent' A2M course (and I think COWA is the best respected) that I don't know how reliable that is, to be honest....

Wow am I glad to hear that someone has been offered a spot - I am a bit confused myself you see - I have succesfully found one person here at NMM that has gone onto king's and confirmed they ar in their first year (unfort. I can't remember the username of this person) - I have an interview at CCn in a weeks time and I am really thinking that it would be 'safer' to go for that or cowa if I get a spot?? Don't wnt to put you off in any way as there seems to be a record of success with BBk as well. Will you be going? I have got my letter of confirming how I shall pay for this course now. what bout yourself??

Thanks for your repy must admit it has lifted my hopes slightly

Do you think so? The only reason why I don't want to accept the spot is because of the slim chance..

But do you think I am being ridicule??

Should I just accept this spot and wish for the best i.e work my arse off? Or should I go to a wellreputed school which will give me 4 unis I will be able to apply for if that makes sense...I am really torn and don't know where to go form here?
