Graduate entry if you got your degree part time

Hi any advice would be greatly appreciated. I would like to go into med school and am thinking of going in via graduate entry route. However I wish to do the degree part time as I could get a full honours degree in 4 years instead of 3 and would allow me to save some money and gain some more work experience prior to going into med school. Birkbeck are offering a foundation degree in science and are saying that 6 places at UCL medical school are reserved for graduate of that course. As far as I know UCL are the only uni to accept this course so I was thinking of going to Birkbeck and studying for a degree in either chemistry or bio chemistry as I believe I could apply at more institutions. I need to go the graduate entry route as I won’t be able to do 6 years and also I would if possible study at a London uni. What has been your experience of this and do admitting universities distinguish between full time and part time degrees. I would like to hear from anyone with experience of this thank you.

your best best is to email the unis and ask, i cant see how it would be a problem but they mat have an issue about coping with medicine becasue of the intensity but i would send an email to all the unis your thinking of applying to, why not straight into medicine it will save you money in the long run esp when the fees cap comes off

Don't know anything about the Birkbeck course, but can say that in my experience unis don't distinguish between full- and part-time degrees. I did mine over 6 years, and although I went for 5-year medicine courses rather than GEPs in the end, it was only because of the application-to-place ratio, and not because anyone was negative about my degree when I enquired. On the contrary, if you do a degree part-time, it is usually because you're simultaneously juggling many other things, which tends to impress interviewers rather than make them question your ability to cope. At least, that's my experience, anyway.
