    GCSE's access to medicine

hey hope you're all in good health!

i'm on the access to medicine course, and i recently found out that i need atleast a grade A OR B for science at GCSE level to get accepted at university. I was told i need that in english and Maths before startin the course, but nobody said anything about science. i've only got a grade C at science and now i'm really worried.

oh and i'm also doing the course part time, and i heard that you can't get in for medicine with part time. so can someone please clarify these for me? i'l be waiting for your replies.

    thanks

Well, if you could find time to retake your GCSE Science then go for it. Which medical schools you've applied to then? I'm sure there are some medical schools who are willing to accept minimum of C, but you'd be disadvantaged though (I think you could still make changes to your choices 14 days after receiving your UCAS Welcome letter so hurry!). You should have researched their academic criteria first. I'm sure you'll be fine, and good luck!

    Hi StickMan,
Which Access course are you on? I went to Mancat and we were told that we wouldn't be considered by any of the med schools if we went part time.

    Hey love child and Madimi

thanks for your replies. I'm doing access to medicine at mancat. I'm in my first year doing part time. I can't resit GCSE science. I've already got to resit maths and english, but i'm doing that next year. Because i've only got a C now. I'm so worried. i was so determined and now this has just put me off.

Don't worry, normally universities will take your results from your access course only and won't look at your GCSEs or other academic past. However, check with the unis you're applying to first. Good luck

i was told at mancat for medicine you have to do full time otherwise universities see you as either unable to cope with demands of medicine as a degree or not as committed as you should be (not my words by the way) and i had legitimate reasons for part time but anyways would it not be a benefit to switch and get mancat out the way in one year

hey mate im on mancat one year, i havent been told i need science A or B, im taking a gcse in maths though to bump up from a c to a b. Dont worry, BUT yes every uni i asked said no to the 2 yr pasrt time course, the idea is that the intensive 1yr course prepares u for uni

Is there anyway you can quickly transfer to full time StickMan? Might be just about do-able as we are early in the year, better that than waste a whole year (although obviously your circumstances might not allow you to). I'm surprised they haven't stressed this at Mancat this year, they did last year.

I got over 75% in everything which is what Manchester wanted last year. It varies though, someone was told they need 85% in everything for HYMS and someone else from my year only needed 70% so there's a big variation!
