Access to Medicine
Heyy everyone. I'm new to the forum and I hope all is well!
I am in a dilemma, I have spoken to a few people and they have given me some advice which has solved my dilemma but still I want to share it with you all as there are many people on here who are aware of all the terms and conditions about how to get into Medicine.
I have just entered year 12 and I intended to study: Maths, Biology, Chemistry & Physics or Psychology for A Levels. Colleges and Sixth Forms were happy to offer me these courses looking at my Mock GCSE Results. However, when it came to the ACTUAL GCSE's I fell back on 1 topic- The main one of them all. My double award Science- I received a CC instead of a BB and because I did double award I lost my grip on all three topics: Biology, Chemistry & Physics.
I have been told that I can still get into Medicine by applying for Medicine with Foundation year as the foundation year is for those who do not have a Science background but wish to proceed into Medicine. Is this true?
I was also told that if I study subjects that will be appealing and impressive for Universities then I will have a bigger chance in being accepted into Medicine with Foundation year. I am studying Maths, English, I.T & Psychology... hopefully this will help me. (Insh'Allah)
I have been very down since I got my GCSE results as I feel as though my dreams have shattered into pieces... I have always wanted to be a Paediatrician but I guess it may not be possible no more. I'm just moving on believing- Whatever happens, happens for the best.
Oh, I'm really sorry for babbling on so much and sorry if I bored you!
Thank you all for reading. Take care.
Much love, Fuj. XxxX

It depends on the university. Some uni's are aimed at younger people for their 6 year programmes and some uni's are aimed at mature applicants who have relevant experience in this field.
You would need to check on the uni's first. I know UEA is aimed at younger people who meet certain criteria, such as parents had never been to uni, etc, etc. Those that may not have been able to access medicine normally.
Others such as St Georges are aimed at mature applicants and request 3 years of significant work experience with a proven career progression.
Have a look at the universities you are interested in, and see what is on offer. Good luck. The stars exist that we might knowhow high our dreams can soar

Also, can you not do science related A Levels with a C at GCSE?
I thought that was the minimum requirement for A Levels, or has it all changed since I was at school? The stars exist that we might knowhow high our dreams can soar

Thank you very much.

Yeah, it's VERY competitive now so they have taken Science up to a B.
Plus, Maths has changed to an A in some colleges/Sixth forms.
I looked at Sheffield Uni & they offer the 6 year course for younger students and yeah I also checked St.Georges but they only offer for mature students with an age minimum of 21.
