    man uni said "access combined science" will be enough entry req

    i contacted manchester unversity asking whether "access combined science" woulod get me onto BDS dentistry 1st year. she said if i can study 60 credits which 45 of has to be at lvl 3 then i can.

    uni of manchester min requirements:-

    biology = lvl 3
    chemistry = lvl 3
    physics = lvl 2
    maths = lvl 2
    english = lvl 2
    IT = lvl 2

    acess combined scinces at MANCAT u normaly do 54 credtists and can chose 2 out of 3 science subjects to study, however if u want studying dentistry or medcine they will let you do all 3 science subjects which will giv u 60 credits.

    what MANCAT offers : -

    biology = lvl 3
    chemistry = lvl 3
    physics = lvl 3
    maths = lvl 3
    english = lvl 2 (or lvl 3 if ur uni requires it)
    IT = lvl 2

    as you can see its more than enough what the uni requires. BUT ASK UR UNI YOURSELF AS IT MAY NOT BE SAME FOR EVRY1
    I asked whats the difference between Access combined science from access medicine, dentistry , they said with acess med you have to do 3 science but with combined sciences u can only do 2, however if u are doing med or dent then you can do 3 sciences subjects.

    finally got back on track, i can now study denitstry my life long ambition : ). Now i need to book my self UKCAT test and do 2 week experiance at a dental practice b4 september (lol running out of time).

    can ANy1 tell me what sort of questions they asked for uckat test. also did u have alot of time to answer each question, what was average time u had for each question. and finnally was it hard?

    i will probly start it in 2008

    ty, good luck evry1

    Hi there,
    Glad you got it sorted. Make sure you get as much experience as possible now - this year was a poor year for dentistry for people from Mancat so make your application as strong as you possibly can.
    UKCAT - it wasn't hard, it was just hard to do within the time limit! You don't have time to work out the answers, you have to go for estimated guesses really (certainly for the maths bit!). Practice the website questions, buy the book, stay calm and good luck!!

    Hiya,
    Yes I finished at Mancat at the end of June. Are you claiming any benefits? If so, you'll get your course fees paid, otherwise you'll have to pay. The teaching starts at GCSE level and then rapidly progresses! I found maths and physics the hardest, the rest was fine as long as you're prepared to work hard yourself and not relying on the tutors....
    We were in for 4 days a week on Access to Medicine, Dentistry & Pharmacy - I don't know anyone from the combined science course so can't comment on how busy their week was.

    is there like a tuition fees loans u can apply for like i did for my university course which u pay back when u earn over 15k or sumthing like that?

    secondly will mancat help me with my personal statement?

    did u end up getting over 75% for the access, if so is it very hard to get 75% or over, do u have to work like 24/7 or is it ok?

    was ur course mostly c/w or exam based?

    There's no loan you can apply for I'm afraid. It's a hard year both academically and financially and there's no way around that. Most of us had to work part time whilst studying.
    Mancat do offer help with writing personal statements and interview technique.
    Most University offers will require a minimum of 75% in every subject, although one person needed 85% in every subject this year, and someone else only required a very easy 70% overall so it does vary!! As long as you turn up, study on your own, and work hard you'll manage 75% okay, it's definitely do-able.
    Each unit for every subject in biology, physics and maths had an exam and coursework. For chemistry it was mainly exams, and English was exams too with an additional research project and presentation forming part of the assessment.
