Hmm. Think you almost made my point for me with this sentence.

Personally I have A grades in English, Maths and other GCSEs (and that was in the days before A* had been invented). So do many others on our course. BUT some unis (not all) may overlook a C grade gcse gained many years ago by a mature (and bear in mind that these days that would be called a B grade). It would be very petty of a uni to turn someone down because of a bad gcse grade taken (in my case) 19 years ago when circumstances were completely different and who has since gone on to study at a much higher level and proven their worth.

Miss M I can't understand why you have this 'looking down my nose at those thick and worthless access students' attitude when the courses are at exactly the same level as A Levels and twice the workload - and proven, student for student, to be more effective at gaining offers. Perhaps you feel that 'old' people should be kept out of medicine?

yey i picked A lvls cos i dont fink i've got the abiity to cope wif an access course.

the peeple who do them are pretty amazing, and some of em keep doing there careers as well besides.

thats about three times as much as their A lvl counterparts, and its tru that an A lvl student at college, doing minimal work is by far less able than an access student doing a full time job and raising a family.

at the moment, doing A lvls gives you a wider choice of unis to choose from - lets not forget they';ve been around and therefore are more part of admissions staff's brains than access courses are.
YOu know, its like trying to update your Office staff to Apple macs (arguably the best computer package) after they've been using MIcrosoft Windows for twenty years.
