right basically ,

I'm new to this thing. and would really want to know the answer to this . Im currently doing A levels, english lit, history, media all that crap but would like to do medicine , and Im thinking of applying for the Premedical year. but also heard of the Access course. Is it really for mature students because I was checking it out and it didnt state any were it is specifically for mature students. Im 17 btw and would like to start the course when im 18, so sept 2009?

our access course took afew 19 yr olds but wouldnt take younger then that. it is for mature students ie over 21's or people who havnt got grades due to illness etc, or for people who dont have a science background. diff courses are more strict on age than others. personally i would say its better to do 6 yr course then access adn then 5 yr course as at least u are on the course then!

access course is easier then a levels though. - i did both

by the way whoever said u cant get into a top ten med school with just acces course is just stupid. aberdeen was rated 3rd best in guardian and i only needed access for that, and for BSMS and durham and actually nearly all of them. the only one that i looked at which i found i couldnt was dundee.

i am studying an access course at the mo, and have had doubts as to whether or not i made the right choice..as a grad with a non-science background i think i should have done a-levels but hey ho im doing it now and so just need to go for it...

did you do an access course first then A-levels?

It would be great to hear where you did your A2M though and what aberdeen thought of it as been acceptable? i am currently waiting for clarification on mine from their admissions before i apply...i am studying at lambeth...

if you have any advice, i have a thread here
cause i am trying to figure where is best to apply for my situation...

So what would be the best option for me now . I will be finishing my A2s this summer . Ive been literally begging my teachers to predict me an AAB as my AS grades wre only a CCE. My teachers are predicting me ABD . So im really confused atm what to do next is it worth applying for the pre-medical option. the one without a science background.

i think u still need high grades for the premed course ie ABB in the subjects u do, but u can check. i think ur D would be a problem. you could either do a degree and then go for grad entry, or u could get some experience for a yr/take a gap yr and retake modules. i dont think u could really do an access unless u worked for a couple of yrs and then did it.

Hi,

I have just sent off my application to study A2M at Stow College in Glasgow. I read somewhere that you should be 25+.

I don't have any high school qualifications and had almost given up hope of getting into med school! I'm at uni at the moment studying Psyc, but it's only my first year so i'm taking a bit of a risk jumping out and into A2M (providing I get in) but I now have new hope!

It seems that a lot of people are unaware that A2M even exist.
