    Angry jabs before sept??

    Just a quick rant....!!

Just been to my (particularly unhelpful) GP surgery, again, after being told by the GP - who I thought would want to help seeing as it's her profession I want to learn, that she "won't rush to fill out my health questionaire for med school and there will be a charge for it" and that have to see nurse for hep b jabs so re book..

so i did and just been this pm to be told, after waiting for eternity, that it's now "med schools responsibility to give jabs - they should know this - and we're not doing them anymore??!"

I was under the impression that, you are supposed to get them b4 you start but if you've not had them then they will have to start course in sept. I'm just a bit worried that this is going to be a problem come sept if I've not even started the course?

Has anyone else had this with their GP?!

(and I hope GP enjoys her ten pound fee because that's a lot of money in my budget at the moment !)

    Sorry, rant over!

I haven't got as far as a questionnaire yet, but I haven't even spoken to my GP. I called the surgery and they asked the nurse if I was allowed to have the men. c. and she said it was fine.

When I asked about my hep b booster, she said I would need a blood test to check my antibody levels. However, I really wouldn't worry too much, as I am sure when you do go to medical school, their occupational health department, will go over your form and see what needs doing.

Try not to lose any sleep over it, I am sure the medical school will do it all for you. Good Luck, and yes I am in agreement with you that GP's charge money for anything they can, complain about the overbooking of appointments, and then aren't willing to help when you do get to see them. They obviously aren't getting paid enough!!!

lol! I've calmed down abit now!! Not worrying too much, it just might have been less stressful for everyone if the nurse informed the GP, who owns the surgery, that they are not offering the course of jabs anymore!

You can normally claim the charge back once you've started - i know everyone on my course did when we did our nursing degrees! i however wasn't told til i went to pick it up and my grandad went and complained so they waived the fee!! lol!
however, i got all my Hep b's done before i started but still ended up in Occu Health with them drawing blood to test to make sure i had safe levels. FOUR boosters later......lol - i now have safe levels!! Gp surgery's do offer Hep B injections for holiday makers thou so you could get it done

being charged is so unfair! when i went on holiday i wasnt charged for my jabs and when i went and asked about hep b and c etc my doctor was really helpful, ive just finished the course o jabs and have paid nothing!! I just have to go back a month before i need to hand in the proof to the med school and they said they would get a lab report which states what im ammune to etc. I cannot for the life of me understand why there is such a difference between doctors! Im in northumberland and i have them free, yet some people in newcastle, only a few miles away, have had to pay! Madness!
