    Kings Lynn 2007

Just thought I'd start the ball rolling, I had a letter from the college of west anglia on friday, confirming they had received my apllication, and were in "the process of organising an interview for me", albeit interviews don't start until January 2007. I believe this is telling me that I will definitely have an interview in January, just so I dont worry over christmas ? Aint that nice of them !!

What do you guys think ?

I had a similar letter the other week. A confirmation that they have received my application and I will have an interview in the new year. No date or time was set. So hopefully I'll do well in my interview and I'll get a place.

Apparently, they only interview you if they want to give you a place

    Thanks

Thanks for your advice. I have the application pack etc. I am trying to decide who to pick for a reference. I hope you do well in your interview, good luck!!!

I am new to this forum and not quite sure how to use it. Can you delete posts? I feel a bit silly for sending the initial post that i sent, not sure why i gave my life story but hey. I was just interested to see if anyone else was in my position too. Things always seem less daunting if there are more than one of you with similar goals.

Anyway i hope to be offered an interview too, hope there is still time and places!

    Regards

    Martha

Dont worry about the post everybody wants to explain there situation, just so they explore the facts.

I'm sure there are places left, they usually collect around 90 "specimens" and it's still early days yet, I heard of people getting places in April the following year !!

Anyway someone with your experience shouldn't have a problem with getting a place. Your only problem is explaining "why the career change"

    Good luck anyway

    Lightbulb What the college say

The admissions team at the college are looking for answers to these questions:

    - Why medicine - not nursing, HCA, paramedic or anything else
    - Why now - not when you left school or in 5 years time
    - Why COWA/A2M - rather than A-levels or 6-yr foundation inclusive medicine
    - Why you - sell your experience, drive (enthusiasm), and explain that any past 'baggage' or home/money issues are not a proble for the year at King's Lynn - you will need to concentrate on studies. Working along side study is very tough going, if indeed you can find any work!

Glynn Street who used to co-ordinate the Access to Medicine admin has just moved to another department, so the general admissions team are tasked with handling all enquiries. For a knowledgeable resource, ask for Helen McGarry who is the course director.

If you are the 'right' person for the course, there is almost no deadline for applying - I applied last Feb (06), was interviewed at the end of June and offered a place in July. There is more than one student on the course this year who applied in September 06. That said, there were 7 applications per place on 120 places. Of 120 accepted offers, 102 arrived on the course and we're now down to about 80 (4 groups of 20 - good learning environment).

    Good luck with it all

    drop outs

Many of those who 'droped out' did so during the first week or two. I really don't know why this group dropped out.

Since getting into teaching (this first couple of weeks are induction etc) very few have left the course. So far as I'm aware these have been financial / family / personal circumstances changing causing the departure.
