I applied really late, had my interview 10 days before the course started and here I am, in the middle of exams! Your problem isn't going to be getting onto the A2M course, it's going to be getting into medicine having retaken exams so many times. You really need to get in touch with med schools because the A2M course won't rule out the fact you've done resits, see what they say about your situation.

Hi sacrifice, I did the A2M course 2005/2006 and have just passed my first year exams at Newcastle Med School. Two things, Dani has given you some very sound advice, the med schools will defo look at your retakes. Most of them, I'm sorry to say, do not look that farvourably on retakes (esp 3rd time re-takes) so, phoning up is a good idea. I know this is disheartning as you obviously want to study medicine very much. Secondly they will know you have re-taken beacause on your UCAS application you MUST include details of your last three courses underaken in relation to academic qualifications.

    Hope this helps.

thanks for your reply claire, let me add some more details, maybe that way you know my position better,
i did a-levels for 2 years as normal college students but didnt get good grades, an so this is my 3rd year retaking,( a2 chem, a2 physics, a2 bio)+ A2 maths which isnt a retake.
also i havent applied to ucas or anywhere this year or last year,
I want to do medicine no doubt, an i know theres no easy way in, but i really hope theres some route out there which will lead me to it,

A2M at west anglia is out of my list now, cos its soo far as im going to b staying at home, an the other access to medicine courses that i know of require u to b 21, an im just 19,an the best route i think now is going to be st georges biomedical, but i havent applied to that, an i really would like to go there now,
but what are my chances of getting there with clearing??
if there is any other route plz let me know, I cant afford to leave london, which really limits me.

you may find your best bet would be getting a 2:1 in a health related degree like you say. they usually have sciene related degrees in clearing, though you cant rely on particular universities and theres ucas extra as well. but you have to have applied through ucas and have been rejected from everywhere or reject your places, have you applied through ucas this year? if you have look on the ucas extra site.

    thanks for ur reply,

I havent applied to anywhere this year, not even ucas,

isnt it even harder to get to medicine after being a graduate,
i heard its something like 1 out of 50??

Hi Sacrifice, Think elz has given sound advice. My advice would be apply for biomedical sciences and wait a few years before applying for medicine. Get a 2:1 degree under your belt and go from there because, as I say, med schools will almost not touch you with A-level retakes unless you have a VERY good excuse. I got terrible grades in my A-levels. Mind you that was 14 yrs ago (yes I'm that old) and had worked as a nurse for 8yrs beforehand. It is tough to get into med school but definitely worth waiting and fighting for!
