Am I good enough for British Med Schools?

Dear Viewers,

Im 17 at the moment and currently doing my AS levels. Last year I done my GCSE's but I didnt do too good on them; 3A's, 2B's and 6C's. However if i do well on my AS Levels, for example 3A's and a B, do you think i have a good chance of getting into a medical school in the UK? This is really worrying me as i really am passionate about becoming a doctor however i feel im already at a handicap because of my GCSE's. Is there a good chance of me getting into a British Uni?

Yours mdd65.

Check the entry requirements for each med school in the country - you can find their webpages through the UCAS site. Some med schools have fairly rigid minimum GCSE requirements (Birmingham for instance, if rumours are to be believed), but others are more accomodating.

Hey.
When I applied to medicine I was asking myself the same questions as you are now. I wasn't sure if I was "clever" enough to do medicine. In the end I realised success has more to do with how hard you work than how "clever" you are.

So like a previous poster said, just work as hard as you can. And make sure you know the entry requirements for each med school before you apply there.

I think most medical schools in the uk have set requirements for english and maths (+ often science) GCSEs, so you should check on the website of the medical schools you want to apply to and see if you have the correct grades in them subjects.

You could always apply after a-levels once you have obtained your A-levels, as i hear it is a lot easier to get a place once you have the grades in hand, in comparrison to predicted grades.
