New Access Course to Medicine
Hey all,
I've been checking th posts on Access to medicine courses and I realised that no one has mentioned 'Thames Valley University' - Pre-Medical Option as I applied and wanted and still need some guidance.
The course is a one year course where afterwards if you pass the exams you will then go onto study at Imperial School Of Medicine. It might be a new thing I have'nt got a clue, but the entry requirements are quite low. A C and above in Maths and English.
For more help, check out the website.
Plus, if you know anyone doing this course or if you know about it, and talking rubbish please tell me.
Thanks
Tascha

Never heard of it... sounds pretty sweet if it's true, though - Imperial, baby!
I'm currently studying Access to Medicine at the College of West Anglia in King's Lynn. If you can hack living somewhere painfully quiet for ten months, it's the best bet for people coming to medicine from unconventional backgrounds.

I can't help but think that Access to Medicine courses are beginning to do themselves out of a job.
The number of people successfully joining medical school from the course in King's Lynn declined very slightly last year (hopefully it's a blip, rather than the beginning of a trend) due in part to the number of other Access to Medicine courses that have sprung-up, elsewhere in the country... though, also, due to the increasingly hard-line attitude of medical schools towards sub-2.i graduates.

I remember hearing about this course just over a year ago. It sounds good in essence, but the problem arises if you don't get into imperial. If that were to happen you would be stuck doing a degree you may not be interested in, which may not open up as many avenues as a similar course at a difference university. Thats only my opinion though. I don't know of anyone on it though it would be interesting to talk to someone doing it. I just worry that because the places aren't guaranteed a lot of people would be disappointed but i imagine this happens on the Bradford course as well.
ANYTHING WRITTEN BY ME ON THIS SITE DOES NOT REPRESENT THE VIEWS OF SOUTHAMPTON UNIVERSITY!
Finally a final year medical student!
