Commuting London Kings Lynn
Hi everybody! My husband and me were just making some money counts. Do you think it would be possible to commute between London and Kings Lynn? Are full time mature students entitle to some discount? And finally...do you think they would accept me (in case they have places left) even if I am a foreigner and I have still no Uk address? And more: it would be possible in your opinion to work a little while on the course (I would save some time for voluntary work which I would not give up for the world!)? Is there somebody going to kings Lynn from London in sept?

Hi Mary
I am going to KL from London too ... hadn't even considered commuting until I read your post :-) It will depend on how long it will take you to get to St.Pancras ... As for discounted Rail Travel, since you will be a full time student, you should be eligible for a Student Card which usually gives you a good discount. You can also book all your tickets well in advance and get Apex fares.
Having looked at the time table for this year, you could get away with travelling only four days a week ...
So it's a possibility .. and thanks, I will give it some thought too :-)

" Do you think it would be possible to commute between London and Kings Lynn?"
Hi Spacedoc and Mary,
Commuting to King's Lynn would be very very expensive and would put undue stress on your life.
I live in london but have a flat in King's lynn which I stay at for 3 nights / 4 days. If you speak to the course director (Derek Holmes) you will be placed in a group whose class timetable makes accomodation for your circumstances.
My schedule is as such:
- Wake up 7am in London, Leave by 8am and drive to King's Lynn (diesel cost £6.00) FAR FAR FAR cheaper than the train even with student discount.
- Arrive KL by about 10:00-10:30 making allowence for traffic (farm lorries and such)
- My first class is Chemisty at 11:00am
- Remain in Kings Lynn Mon, Tues, Wed nights (flat cost about £70/week)
- My final class ends with Biology, Thurs 4pm
- Jump in car and drive back to London (east end) arriving 6:30 or so.
See Loving wife.
- we were at first a bit skeptical about the weekly separation for 3 days, however we talk on the phone daily which eases the tension. Its not too bad really.
****************************
As for "do you think they would accept me". Talk to Derek Holmes and make an appointment to SEE HIM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. DON'T MISS THE APPOINTMENT.

Thanks for the info RonWF ... I suppose it takes you a couple of hours to drive because you are on the right side of London !
But I am interested in this flat you have ... will drop you a pm about it
Cheers

Ah well, i phoned Derek, as I can't reach Kings Lynn (I have 'only' four jobs currently), he asked me some detail on voluntary work, and eventually told me I can apply. The phone call was terrible as I could not speak (that nervous I was) in a language of the human kind, asked him to repeat what he said maybe ten thoudand times. And you want to know more? I forgot to write the date on the appl. form. Yes. I am a damn genius. Anyway, as we are total fools, we are optimistic.

He will mention gaining volunteer and work experience. GET IT however you can. The med school admissions personell really do want to see this kind of behaviour.
I had a 12 hour a day job 6 days a week with little free time even for my wife :-(, however they just didn't understand. Medical school admissions / interviewers have a checklist and that's that.
Hope that helps.

Thank you for support. I just hope they invite me for an interview. This is all I dream about. I don't know why, but I feel they will not. Is the fact that I am Italian and currently living in Italy a problem? I wonder. For other issues I do not worry: I have a good academic curriculum , loads of work experience and volunteering...still I feel insecure. I just hope something happens. Thank you again.
