    Anatomy Teaching at Aberdeen

I was wondering if any current medical students at Aberdeen could tell me how anatomy is taught throughout the course? I read online that Abdereen use prosections and small group learning and that there is opportunity for dissection during the medical humanities module. I also read that there is a 3D anatomy software facility based on CT ans MRI scans. Could someone confirm if this is correct?

    Thanks!

    Hey Claire,

Yeah, that's roughly how it looks like. I'd add a few comments, though:
    1. Acland's DVD of human anatomy played (plays?) a major part in the teaching. Its accessible from any PC in the university network. Towards the end of pre-clinical phase of the course you'll learn to love Dr Acland
    2. Small group teaching will not suit everyone, and occasionally it's tough to get good tutor-guided teaching unless you're in the right place at the right time. For those who give up (or don't like being taught by others), there are boards posted around anatomy rooms with the information you're supposed to learn (think of it in terms of museum display and short description available for each item)
    3. Humanities dissection project is only available to a small subset of the class. It's one of the most competitive modules in the Humanities course, and selection is supposed to be random - so no-one can be guaranteed the opportunity to dissect their own specimens. I was one of the lucky ones to get in though, and I really do recommend applying.
