What are my chances?
Hi everyone, just wanted to ask if Aberdeen is particularly graduate/mature friendly? I am a graduate with a 2.1 and my ukcat avg is 685.
My a-levels weren't very great Bio-D, Chem-C, Psychology-B and As Ict-C. I am planning to retake them but i'm still not sure if I am good enough to get into aberdeen.

I was told that they were when I applied this year. I got an interview and they were very nice and interested in what I had to say.
Though their website says that they require grade B in A level chemistry.Glasgow Medic, 2010-2015

Hey Ayamma,
afaik, the 2009 Freshers have a very impressive 60-odd graduate group. If you compare this with our year (no more than 30 grads), the only reasonable conclusion is that Aberdeen is getting increasingly grad-friendly.
In a grad application, the type, subject and class of your previous degree matter more than A-levels, but as fortysixandtwo pointed out, you still need at least B in Chemistry. Not to worry, though - your 'C' could be considered sufficient if the admission team decides you're generally a strong candidate (personal statement, non-academical expericence, interview) - in this case, they would send you to complete a 2-month long chemistry summer course in Aberdeen, which you'd have to pass with flying colours to meet the condition of their offer. IMO, this route is way quicker and less painful than re-sitting A levels - but don't change your plans yet - consult the admission team and let them help you decide which path would suit your application best.

err, did u read the previous post in this topic?
the answer you're looking for is there. And for the record, there is no-one on NMM who could reliably estimate your chances. Each application is unique and there is no way of telling who's going to end up with an interview invite.

Please advice - I am from Leeds, England. I am thinking very strongy of applying to Aberdeen. For GCSEs I got A*AAAAAABBC. My UKCAT is 640. My AS not so great BBBC - I am going to do some resits to bring them up as I mised on the higher grades only by a few marks. My predicyed A2's are AAA - Biology, Chemistry and Maths. I know that Aberdeen does not look at AS results. I am trying to get my PS as good as I could and my form teacher promised to give me a very good reference. I have done a lot of work related experience - 1 week at hospital, 3 months working in a cancer charity shop as a volunteer, two weekls of teaching assistant at my old primary school, and I have been a volunteer at a local old folks home since February this year. I am a school Prefect and have done rugby and a mmber iof the school athletucs team.
Please tell me, would stand a chance? I really really want to become a doctor! Doers any body know how many applications they received for 2010, how many interviwed etc? THANK YOU.

Hey cool954
Oh dear...
Did you, by any chance, happen to stumble upon this (Link) thread on the Aberdeen forum? :P
Please read it, and if you're still unsure about whether or not you meet their requirements, it's best to call the admissions team and clarify the situation with them. The statistical figures regarding no. of applicants and no. of offers given out each year are provided on a webpage which you'll also find in the link I posted above.
For all future questions of similar nature - I know this is a scary time and you're all excited (and terrified at the same time) by this whole selection thing, but please... don't be afraid to read the "READ BEFORE POSTING" thread!
