Hey, I'm also doing chemistry (and biology a levels) all in one year too at a night college. If I get offered, it would be AB in Bio and chem. I still need to work hard to get the grades but hmm..

Did you not get the info about the interview in your letter?

We all signed a confidentiality agreement so we can't discuss specifics. Though all the info you need came along with the letter.

Hi there, yeah I'd have to agree with what fortysixandtwo said - all the info you need is on the letter. We had to sign a confidentiality slip so I'm sorry I can't give any more info. I'm sure you'll have no bother on the day just give it your best shot and the very best of luck to you

Ooh sounds ominous. Can't wait to get the letter now! Congratulations fortysixandtwo, Aberdeen were lovely, definitely tried to put me at ease (if that were possible) and altough they gave me what I would term 'a good grilling', there were no major surprises.

Someone told me that the Aberdeen finals are not in 5th year. Can someone confirm if this is true?

    From the website:

"Teaching is systems based, with the final integration of the examination of all body systems coming in third year."

Would this exam (these exams) usually come in 5th year in other schools?

Thank you! I'm pretty excited about seeing the city and the brand new Suttie centre.

Yeah ure right, the finals are in 4th year. They are supposed to integrate the theoretical and hospital-based systems teaching and test all that you're supposed to know by then.

You're going to be doing all the theoretical 'systems' modules until halfway through the 3rd year. Each system's block is examined at the end of its respective semester, so you're going to be tested on cardiovascular in 1st year (when it's being taught) as well as during 4th year finals. You're going to get the GI teaching in 2nd year, so the exams will take place in 2nd year and 4th year.

What about 5th year? - I hear you cry... it's all about integrating what you've learned and putting it into practice. 5th year is like a 'lite' version of FY work - i.e. you are assigned to specific wards for given periods of time and even though there are no formal exams, you still get assessed on your ward performance by the consultant who supervises your placement.

I dunno about how other schools do it, but each of them has to assess the real-life knowledge of their 5th years, and some may choose to do so while still teaching, and others (like Aberdeen) designate the whole year solely for that purpose.

Good luck with your interview, you'll see it's not that scary once it begins :]
