The regents are supposed to turn up 30 minutes after you're all there (they're busy people, e.g. my regent came straight from operating theatre) - some never come, unfortunately. You're being assigned to a group once u're there and that's when u find out who your regent is.

I see...that sounds good. So, if they do not turn up... we find out who they are, send them an email and meet up at a later time?

Can students pre-determine/choose who their regent will be i.e. by contacting the regent beforehand?

Nope - 2 reasons I can think of off top of my head:

    1) the logistics would b difficult to work out - each Regent is getting 1-3 students from each year. How are you going to assign students to Regents if , for some reason, one is more popular than the other? Random allocation solves the fairness issue.

    2) it isn't necessary - Regents only act as supporters, i.e. they can't pull u any favors, they don't mark your exams, etc. Additionally, you only meet your Regent once or twice (if you're lucky) per year - having a 'better' Regent does not make a significant difference in terms of how you're going to cope with your problems (for more personal/tougher issues, there are special services set up at the university, Regent is only supposed to provide general guidance if you're lost)

I have a few questions, Thanks.

When do you meet with regents, is it before you start Med School or during ?
What do regents actually help with, or are they there just to check up on how you are doing?

Sorry, I've just found the answers to my questions above.
