For all the 'going to be 2nd years'
First and foremost, congratulations for achieving the M of MB ChB, just 4 more letters to go

I was just wondering, so I'll need a 2nd year's view, what you actually do next year as regards the wards and stuff? It intrigues me.
Plus, how have you found it?4th Year Aberdeen

you would have just as well PM'd me or messaged me on facebook or MSN or something :P
Urrrrm you go to wards? For the first 8 weeks of term you get clinical skills where you practice examinations on people in your year. Then after that you start ward placements which rotate throughout the year. This is 10am-12/midday every thursday and friday.
Ask me after exams how I have found it! Has been a lot more stuff to remember than first year and exams were a bit more difficult. I think in one of them 80% got you a CAS mark of 12
4th year @ Aberdeen..... although I will be doing a Bsc in September!

Keeno, your advice is priceless as always
Thanks and good luck with ur exams! ;]
I'll translate for other 'gonna b 2nd years' - First 8 weeks we'll get a chance to use those (already covered in dust, judging by the look of my own) steths, and maybe stick each other with needles, then we'll get to finally meet some patients (it's about time, eh?) - but obviously won't do anything practical with them until year 4

Hi guys, I know I'm like totally crashing your thread here but just wanted to ask about fresher's week at Aberdeen. Is there any special events planned or anything like that? Does your second year mums and dads take you out for a good old drink or fourteen i hope?
Aberdeen first year, it's bloody awesome up here.

In freshers you get the usual stuff. Introductory lecture and ID cards handed out. When I was 1st year we got a film to watch and a horrible treasure hunt cos it was soaking. It's basically walking around aberdeen looking for stuff to draw and questions to answer. Their is a route you follow and they make you do stuff along it. You will also meet your regents.
You do get an adoption party where you get assiged a 'brother or sister' in your year and you get 2 parents from 2nd year... but I that's the 2nd or 3rd week of term usually. Normally people go out after that. However my kids didn't turn up so I just went home!
Their is also beerienteering in about the 2nd or 3rd week of term which is just a pub crawl in fancy dress. Medics from all years go to that4th year @ Aberdeen..... although I will be doing a Bsc in September!

Ahhh... beerienteering.. I can already feel the taste of ridiculous amounts of alcohol that await us

Our treasure hunt was quite good I felt - the weather was really pleasant (in Aberdeen standards)... This event gives u an opportunity to meet & talk (+ participate in a 'bonding team work' experience) to some of who will probably become your first friends on the course, so b sure not to miss it.Aberdeen Uni - MBChB year 4
