it sounds to me like they arent talking about it as a qualification but that they are talking about passing it with honours ie passing with a distinction i think is wat they mean. at aberdeen you have to get18/20 in scores to get a distinction, and u can achieve distinctions for each yr and its the 4th yr i think that has the most weight. this is then put on ur application for junior docs

ur welcome, but.... I think i owe u an apology
Now that I had a look at Phase II board, I can say that I was talking a load of excrement there - sorry for that, I should check my sources better and think twice before posting if I don't know the topic really well. Here's what I found re: graduating with honours and commendations, as posted by Ms Linemann (be wary tho, this info dates back to 2003, so these rules might not apply anymore)
======
"Students must pass all of the prescribed degree assessments to qualify for the degrees of MBChB. The degrees can be awarded with Honours and Commendations on the basis of criteria shown below:
1 The Phase IV Board of Examiners will review the results of the top 20% of the class taking into account all the degree assessments in the programme. Those students who obtain the highest number of first and second class merit certificates (CAS 18-20 and CAS 15-17 respectively) will be considered for the award of Honours or Commendation in the MB ChB degree, with weighting given for the credit rating per course (ie more points for more credits). This formula is applied and expressed as a percentage. Allowances are made for direct entry students.
2 Flexibility will be exercised, depending upon the overall performance of a particular cohort. Normally, the Board of Examiners should expect to award Honours/Commendations to around 10% of the class.
3 Only first attempt results will be considered, unless a Medical Certificate was submitted or other extenuating circumstances apply"

Hi guys, I've just graduated from Aberdeen MBChB. You can graduate with HONOURS or COMMENDATION. Top 12 or so students on the course over the 5 years (highest scores) will achieve honours, the next 12 or so will get commendation. Simple as that!
