Accomodation
Hey all...
As I sat typing up my dissertation, I could not help but wonder where should/could/would one stay in Aberdeen? I have been on the Applicant site and I was attracted to a number of of places:
Hilhead - For being near the river. For some reason or other, water fascinates me
Elphinstone - It looks nice, and it says usually mature students reside here. That statement felt like a bit of a safety net, ive seen how destructive freshers can be, and ofc played my part in there too! I would prefer it if it was en-suite thoughhhh....
King Street Exchange - mainly because it looks modern, very close to the main campus etc. But I am also wondering, how much time will the students be spending at the main campus? With the Sutti Centre, isnt the bulk of the teaching going to be at Foresterhills?
I also considered looking into properties near Foresterhill but I do not want to compromise the "Dorm life of a Fresher". Any comments, advise or suggestions past, current, prospective students?
Many thanks in advance

Hillhead is near the river, ontop of a hill, but you can walk down a fairly steep hill and reach a footbridge which is quite nice over the river don. Also, I know a number of graduates residing at hillhead, it has a great community atmosphere and the pub is gooooood

Not read too much about elphinstone to be honest, near the Hub....ughhh, it's up the road from me (crombie). Looks fairly nice inside really.
King street exchange does look modern but be warned, it was built by the same people who built New Carnegie at Hillhead and it looks great from the outside, butis company o things fast....and cheaply, so there could be some faults inside like Carnegie, but dont let that put you off. It's right at the bottom of St Machar Drive, and on a king st, a handy position.
Yes, most of your teaching should be at Foresterhill, Elphinstone is closest, king st a bit further, and hillhead being the farthest away.
From elphinstone...hmmm...walking briskly, will take you 20-25 minutes to get up there going the shortest route. Not impossible...
I'm not sure whether the Uni will try and get a bus route sorted for medics staying at hillhead to go up to foresterhill because a lot of medics stay up there.4th Year Aberdeen

Wow, thanks for the warning about King Street! I wonder whether it is possible to go there and visit the place or not. Distance is not a major problem if students are issued parking permits or if there are other parking slots near Foresterhill. I is blessed with a baby, my lil brum brum. Elphinstone and Hillhead are looking to be a good start from your post....
Thankies

Yeah, the council have bought a large part of Marischal. (Not The anatomy bit or Mitchell Hall).
Therefore, the Uni is moving the practical skills, anatomy and most of the teaching up to a new building called the 'Suttie' centre at foresterhill.
My year is the last year to be taught in Marishcal and on the hilariously graffitied desks.
The reason I put Suttie in speech things, was that it was initially called 'The Matthew Hayes Building'. Matthew Hayes being the man who was the first in Britian to decide to put a medical school right next to a hospital, and so, he formed Foresterhill.
But, as the building got underway, a man with the last name Suttie (god knows about the first name) donated around £4 million towards the building, and, by law (apparently), if there is a single huge donation shadowing all others, the building can be named after the donator.
The Aberdeen MedChi (Medical Chirurgical) society are a bit miffed by this (as are many others), because Mr Suttie works as an Asset Stripper. A job which lies pretty close to the line of legalness and which may sometimes put a toe into the illegalness.
So the society don't really like the guy and managed to raise £200,000 to buy a big conference room right on the top of the building and it will spitefully be named: The Matthew Hayes Conference Room.
A little history I was told by my regent

Ah, that's where I should be working just now, a job i specifically applied for so I'm near home (20min walk), near the library and I'd get a proper sit down lunch in the Foresterhill canteen. The agent asked "can you, start Wednesday".
"Excellent", I thought, "things are coming together" and agreed to start . He then sent the starting details - 15 flipping km out of town in the middle of nowhere! As it stands I have to leave home at 6 in the morning only get back home at 7 at night. Then I need to get showered and changed and by that time I need some dinner so I'm only getting an hour at my books, tops.
I'm raging.

It's officially the suttie centre. It still says matthew hayes project here and there but suttie is the proper I think.
I'm going to call it the Matthew Hayes

AFAIK, we don't get parking permits and driving to Fhill is actively discouraged. Most medics travel by bike. I believe parking anywhere near Foresterhill without paying an extortionate amount is nigh on impossible.
Hillhead has Keith House, a mature/post grad only block if you're after something a little quieter than the standard Freshers thing. Apparently Elphinstone are really nice, with big kitchens and everything. And wonderfully located for QML!Aberdeen 1st year
