UKCAT weighting
Does anybody know how Aberdeen weight your UKCAT score on your application?
"How dare you speak of the crunch? You've never ever been to the crunch!"
"I've been there once."
"Oh yes, we can all go as touists - a little day trip round the crunch. Ooh, that's a bit of crunch."

At the open day last year they said 4% of your final score is on the UKCAT score. I think the points you get for it are on a tier basis e.g. 750+ = 4/4 600-749 =3/4 etc.
Hope this helps2nd Year Aberdeen Medic

yea i dont think theres a major emphasis on it. alot of places do what natmac said where they give points for ur ukcat score, but if u score high on things like personal statement, commiment, teamwork etc then they can make up for a not so brilliant ukcat score.
if u get over 600 (average) ul b fine at most places i expect2008: Aberdeen -int jan-UNCOND OFFER

Yes 4%. Interview is 45%, grades are 25% and your PS is 26%...basically they glimpse the UKCAT and wipe their asses with it, dont really look at it at all.

Thanks guys
That'a a relief, because it's the only part I'm feeling a bit shaky with. Do they look much at your Standard Grades/GCSEs?

They do not look at GCSEs at all. I had 3 rejections from English unis on the basis of GCSEs as I did not do many and an offer from Aberdeen. So if your GCSE grades are not too good apply for at least 1 Scottish uni. If I reapplied it would be to all Scottish unis.

Good stuff. I didn't bother my arse to study for my Standard Grades: so they never came out as well as they could have. I'm applying all scottish anyway, I don't really want to apply to Glasgow and Edinburgh but I have no choice. Cheers natamac.

As far as my little brain is aware the only uni that i applied to that took the UKCAT into serious consideration was Edinburgh.
The other unis just seem to use it as a complusory element for initial selection and have a very small reliance on it for whittling down the hundreds of applicants.

Yes, edinburgh medical application people are a strange race, they look at the UKCAT in so much depth because they cant be bothered their hineys to interview undergraduates...what a pile of pish!
Drake, you said you didn't want to apply to glasgow or edinburgh but had no option, there is always St Andrews to replace one of them? Slightly snobby, but it looks pretty cool!4th Year Aberdeen
