i think u normally hav to have 6 months experience working before u go on the bank. u do as an hca so id imagine u would need some experience working as a nurse.
think we'l hav to see how the course goes first?2008: Aberdeen -int jan-UNCOND OFFER

Hey all,
If I'll meet the requirements, I'll be joining you in September
I'm 22 and (same as elz) nearly a psych graduate
As you can probably tell from my nick, I'm doing my first degree in Abdn, but originally I come from Poland. I did hca work for past 3 years, working for a care agency - they have all kinds of shifts both in ARI and Woodend, as well as care home jobs. The wages are good but not as good as bank nursing, from what I head.
To all interested - you don't need 6 months experience to become a bank nurse. For example, I advertised the idea of bank nursing to my friend from 2nd year psychology (no hca work in his CV) and he applied in their office at ARI. There's quite a long wait (3 months+ ) but eventually they train you up (4 days, so you're still 'green' and lost in the realm of hospital wards) and give you work without further complications. Banking and agency work is probably the best option for ppl like us: flexible hours + you can take a long holiday any time you want (and wages are great, too)
At this point I'm quite certain that halls will not be very good for studying (unless u spend your days at queen mother's library) because of extremely friendly and sociable crowd that parties there with frequency that would amaze many a folk. Additionally, living in a privately rented accommodation is almost always a cheaper option - so I'll look for someone willing to risk an irreversible damage to their psyche to share a flat with
On the other hand, if this won't work out I guess I'll consider moving in to Hillhead..
after an extreme NMM makeover u might find me using another profile (Kensei)..

I had always want to be a Dr, but never thought I was academically capable. I went into nursing and found some intelligence and the more I was in paractice the more I realised that medicine is where I was meant to be.
I work on the bank as an auxiliary just now, and find it great to fit around study and placement. In Glassgow you must have 6 months post reg experience to work as a staff nurse on the bank, but in Aberdeen it says experience is prefered. So hoping to bank in Abdn. My plan is to come home to Glasgow most weekends though, I earn very good money teaching music on a Saturday morning.then a wee NS on the bank, which is very good money!! (Plus if you choose your ward carefully, there is plenty study time during a shift, never mind the learning opertunities!!)
Do you really think private accomodation will be cheaper than halls for 1st year? I thought halls could be good for meeting people. But maybe in a flat, I could bring my bunnies!! lolSt Andrews 1st year medic!

ahhhh bunnies!!! im thinking i might look into more private accomm if i do decide on aberdeen coz the halls dont look too briliant and yea think they are more expensive. i stayed in a house with people last yr it was £70 a week for each of us, we each had big rooms and a sink in there, but shared kitchen and bathroom, but that wasnt in aberdeen, think it might be bit cheaper there.
