Nah, I'm not real (i.e. I'm a virtual being) - hence I don't have a name, just a nick

It's Robert, btw - but friends call me Rob. How about you ruridh17, is your name encoded within that login?

@Elz - especially useful after anatomy lab classes! With various tissues stuck to your lab coat it would be perfect for my 'mad scientist' outfit!!

Uncle R.

A pink stethoscope is the ultimate accessory, no joke repoirtoire is complete without one.

Yeah BMA registration is free for fresher's provided you give them bank details for a direct debit. After that is £30 a year while you are a med student but you can cancel before they take the payment for second year obviously.

@ Ruridh.... I can understand infection control in a hospital... but in the DR I don't think the risk of infection for the specimens is too high given they have been in preserving balm for how many months. The lab coats are only so your clothes don't stink and also you don't get any fluids or anything over them. Oh and you also need to buy a box of examining gloves for DR. Can buy them for £5 from the Anatomy department though so don't need to worry about them.

Best of all you get a wee locker downstairs for your lab coat and gloves. It's like being at high school again you have to buy the padlock though, can buy a set of two in poundland or whatever it is called... and they are quite beefy and won't break. If you are a proper student the pound shop will be your second home i haven't been there since the last time i had a haribo craving which was before xmas

Ruridh - Is that a Scottish name? I have a v good friend whose name is Sian, with a little `-type line over 'i' ... I found that ppl with original names usually have original personalities as well

Ruaridh is Gaelic but I am not sure about that deviant spelling...

Btw I have a house for next year! Is 5 mins from Foresterhill and only £210 per month! The best thing is when we arrived to view the place there were 3 other med students from my year there viewing... we got out before they did and phoned the landlord immediately. Typical girls eh? While they were there chatting away we got the place

Keeno - Well fair enough. just what i heard from my work experience.

You got a locker in school, lucky you. I just had to lug about all ymstuff all day, then ut it ddown somewhere, which inconveniently was the ony place it rained, got stood on etc. Nightmare.

I will just take some from teh care home before i go so i have aplenty.

The pound shop is certainly a great shop, second only to the 50p shop which i saw somewhere on my travels.

Rob - Yeah it is a scottish name, but it is spelt differently because my parents thoght it would be funny to make it even more unique. nice of them wasnt it? haha. And thank you, i like to think i am a nice person.

Yeah that is true. They are ditching it in hospitals with wait for it... ALIVE patients! You won't have someone dissected alive.... there is no infection risk to someone who passed away a while ago

Incidentallly.... if you are above 18 go see Pathology.. very good film and it is probably the first introduction you will get. It is brilliant sitting through all that medical lngo and being able to understand it! Eg when someone says pyramidal tract you will just be sitting there think 'ah these old school yanks... back in my day it was called the spinothalamic tract'... or maybe that is just me...

DISCLAIMER... by introduction I meant although they are models you do see autopsy's... so if you can't deal with 'gore' in a cinema... you know what I mean. I am sure the girl in the cinema behind me was crying at some points!

Thanks Keeno, well worth looking at. They've got the dude from Heroes there and the girl from Brotherhood of Wolves - its scary how many young actors u get to recognize after countless evenings with the precious DivX.. so u're saying they're using lots of medical lingo there? Could be fun. Still, it's just a Hollywood thriller, so no brilliance expected
