Hi! My name is Tiago, I am a 5th year medical student I am thinking in doing a elective month (August 2007) in Aberdeen.
1-Has anyone already done an elective in Aberdeen?
2-How many hospitals exist at Aberdeen?
3-How is the learning there?
1. lots of med students carry out their electives in Aberdeen if they do not want to leave home or spend the money. At the moment there are quite a few German students hanging around doing their electives in Aberdeen.
2. There are quite a few hospitals but med students are based at 4 different ones.
Aberdeen royal infirmary - the main, massive campus
Cornhill - Psychiatric hosp
Woolmanhill - basically a large outpatient dept. hosp
Woodend - Orthopaedic and Geriatric (DOME) dept.
3. Learning is good. ARI is quite busy and the other hospitals have a bit more character/less anonymity but the teaching you get is good and if you are keen the teaching staff are evenly so!
It's around A-level difficulty I would say - lots of different subjects and a great foundation for University.
The prospects of getting into BSMS and other medical schools is very good - I think...

True, realistically. But you never know. Probably some one will drop out next week, but the chances are not all of us will make it and possibly just even one or two.. you never know though, you have...
That's all it is :( We might not get a shot at medicine because there's somebody else who can fit shapes into patterns a tiny bit better than us. Oh well...I don't want to give up hope, but...
