Slow process
I spoke to the folk at Aberdeen who again win awards for their pleasant and informative attitude. The girl in admissions stated that the UCAS forms come through in drips and drabs and not all at once. So it doesn't matter if you were first or last to hand in your form it may be January before they recieve it. They will start interviewing at the end of November and finsih in March. I am going to find a new hobby in the cold winter months. How will everybody else be dealing with the wait?

Yep, I applied to Aberdeen last year and got an interview in Feb but didnt hear the decision till the end of April! They took so long it was quite a nerve recking time, in the end I didnt get in to Aberdeen or any other medical course. So I`m on a gap year at the minute and I`m reapplying to Aberdeen again, looks like it will be another long wait!

Yeah at least they are only interviewing 500 people this year so you stand a much higher chance of getting an offer if you get an interview. Its such a pain in the neck this waiting around though as I have so many other things to try and get together if I either do or don't go. However, I am a re-applicant and much more hopeful than last year due to gaining valuable work experience and volunteering. I am also far more sure I want to do it too which is great as I am very focussed. Sometimes hard to keep positive though.

Hi,
How come you know they're only interviewing 500 this year? I thought everyone got interviewed as long as they met the academic requirements? Is this a new thing? Thanks!

Hey there,
Yeah I was interviewed last year as one of 900. If you go to http://www.abdn.ac.uk/medicine/prosp....hti#applicant
it shows the breakdown and outcome of previous applications. I am assuming those who got places unconditionally were also interviewed which isn't necessarily the case. However they mentioned this at the medicine open day and the admissions secretary again confrimed this on the phone the other day. 500 people will be interviewed I think because they have been having a few problems with basically interviewing then rejecting a huge number of people which they probably see as a waste of resources. However, if you do get an interview it means your chance of getting a place is much, much hogher so it's not all bad.

I speak to you all now as one of the unlucky ones that didnt quite make it last year.
The wait you can't do anything about, absolutely nothing. And from experience I can tell you now that harassing the admissions team will only look bad for you when, although it seems like they're taking too long, they are going as fast as they can and they will get you a decision as quickly as possible. Stay calm, and be patient.
I now warn you, that they are only interviewing 500 this year, which is only 33% of the total number of applicants. In previous years they did interview everyone who met the academic threshold (apart from the odd exception).
In the meantime enjoy the adventure that applying for medicine is lol, and if anyone has any questions about Aberdeen especially Medicine and applying to medicine at aberdeen, feel free to PM me because I live here now and I'll quite hapilly get any inside info i can haha.
Best of luck everyone!:-)

Hey I don't know if you remember me from last year but I was one of the unlucky ones not to get in too last year. Feeling alot more positive about this year though as the criticism I got was very constructive from the head of admissions. all Iwould say is don't be put off phoning admissions with queries as they are very helpful, particularly if you feel its important and you can't get the unfo elsewhere. But its never good to harass! So don't do it

The other positive thing in a way is that if you do get an interview you have a far higher chance of getting an interview so at least everyone will know where they stand a bit better. At least I hope this will be the case but nothing about this ever seems to turn out how you quite expect..

lol its medical school application - NOTHING ever turns out the way you expect it to.
yeah its looking like you have a 60% chance of an offer if you get an interview - compared to last years like 30% chance.
They seem to be taking a leaf out of Dundee's book and interviewing a lot less people this year. Its a much welcomed move. All that glitters........
Happy :-D
