If you dont have a particular budget for buying a laptop, I would go for top of the range. There is a lot of Online learning which begins to gradually happen from year 1 but then dominates your learning by year 3. If you buy the best now, chances are it will be decent even by the time you graduate. Also, high demand graphics being developed now (such as second life) to be implemented in various parts of the curriculum may come in to play during part of your course. These applications need the best graphics card so its worth it imo.

As for debit cards, go with any. abbey, hsbc or natwest.
