I feel I need to get this off my chest. I did my last shift today at the hospital where I've worked for the past four years. It's a private for profit hospital (essentially a business). Lately they have imposed some major cut backs including reducing the medical registrars hours. They hit back by refusing to insert IV lines into surgical patients and taking their sweet time administering discharge scripts. One elderly couple had to sit in the day room for six hours the other day because they didn't get discharged on time so they could catch their train to belfast. We gave the regs more than three hours notice and explained the situation. Yet they still refused to come down and only signed the script about fifteen mins after the couples train had left. I understand why they would be angry but to take it out on the patients in such a petty manner just doesn't seem right to me.
And it's funny because the nurses always bitch about the ct regs saying they are ignorant, not very friendly etc. Except that although they work very long hours and are always very busy, they have no problem putting lines into medical patients, or signing discharge scripts etc.
